I can haz Indy!

Went to see Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls last night!  Theater was crowded but not as packed as I'd expected it to be - still, it was a Thursday.  I imagine it'll be nuts this weekend.

So, briefly - I liked it.  A lot of the reviewers are saying it doesn't have the same "magic" as the earlier ones, but y'know, Harrison Ford's not the only one who's 20-odd years older.  I'm not the same wide-eyed 10-year-old I was when Raiders came out, and neither is anybody else.  I think "Skulls" fits in nicely w/ the rest of the franchise - lots of action, humor in all the right places, and some neat special effects.  Let's face it, the Indy films have never been known for their realistic plots (I've heard some quibbles about the ending, especially), and that's the point.  They're supposed to be plain old-fashioned FUN, so sit back, grab some popcorn, & relax.  :-)

The plot (such as it is) involves Indy trying to find a carved crystal skull with Unusual Powers & return it to its rightful place in El Dorado, the lost city of gold.  *Everything* gets thrown into the mix - old flames, long-lost sons (yes, the rumors are true), Evil Soviet agents (the Russians are apparently not pleased with this movie!), Area 57, alien autopsies (ewww...), man-eating fire ants *(double ewww!) .... Ray Winstone plays a KGB double agent - or is he an MI-5 triple agent? Or... well, that part never really got explained to my satisfaction, but he was fun to watch, so what the heck.   The cast was terrific in general.  Go.  See it now.

I actually really liked this movie too. I saw it at a drive-in. Double feature with Iron Man, which was also really good.

BTW, I totally recommend drive-ins. It was $9 to get in, you get to see two movies, they have the good stuff like that frozen chocolate malt junk, and you DON'T HAVE TO WEAR A BRA. Plus, I swear I smelled marijuana. Good times.
